Combatives at the Lake
A Collaborative Integrated Training Retreat
July 17-19, 2026 in Double Springs, Alabama
What is Combatives at the Lake?
Combatives at the Lake is an immersive 2 1/2 day training retreat focused on integrated self-protection in a weapons-based world.
Students and instructors train, eat, and live on-site together — creating an environment built for deeper learning, higher coaching density, and honest pressure-testing of skills.
This is not a hotel conference room seminar.
The focus is not collecting techniques. The focus is developing durable capability:
• Managing unknown contacts
• Decision-making under pressure
• Clinch and ground survival in armed environments
• Integrating verbal skills, movement, medical, less-lethal, and firearms concepts into one coherent framework
⸻
Featured Guest Instructor: Sifu Alan Baker (Saturday)
Saturday, July 18 will be a dedicated Civilian Tactical (C-Tac) training day led by Sifu Alan Baker.
Alan Baker is the founder of the Civilian Tactical Training Association and the C-Tac Program. His background spans martial arts, defensive tactics, edged weapons, firearms, executive protection, law enforcement, and specialized government/military training.
Saturday’s curriculum will include:
Session 1 — C-Tac Perspective & Fundamentals
A framework built around the force continuum:
• Verbal tools
• Soft-control options
• Assault-level responses
• Lethal-force considerations
The goal is not simply “more techniques,” but understanding what tools fit what problems — and when.
Session 2 — Weaponized Grappling Deep Dive
How weapons fundamentally change grappling, positional control, movement, transitions, access, denial, retention, and survival at close range.
This is not sport grappling with weapons sprinkled in.
It is grappling built around weapon systems, everyday carry realities, and close-contact violence.
If you can only attend one day, Saturday is the Alan Baker / C-Tac day.
⸻
Featured Firearms Guest Instructor: Tyler Tharp of Synergy Training Group (Sunday)
Sunday the focus will be on defensive firearms application.
Tyler will be running an AM and PM session on shooting. Details to follow.

The Collaborative Model
Combatives at the Lake is intentionally collaborative.

Ego matters less than participation.
